The programme has been developed to meet the needs of members across the garden retail, nursery and landscape industries.
The programme has been written to ensure it is:
The programme will help participants develop their knowledge and skills and to apply this learning in the workplace. Importantly it will also provide a format for the development of networks operating across the production, retail and landscaping sectors, with participants being encouraged to maintain active contact with each other as their roles and responsibilities develop. How these networks operate will be determined by the group themselves, but they will be encouraged to develop peer coaching and mentoring and other mutually supportive activities. The development of such networks as a complement to skills development has many benefits:
1. The participants; the programme will encourage participants to reflect upon and develop their own leadership style, enabling them to develop and motivate their teams, and giving them the skills to deal with the challenges of management with confidence.
2. Their employers; the programme will help to develop the skilled and motivated managers, who are potentially the senior managers of the future
3. The garden industry; through the networks, each sector will grow to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the sector as a whole and the opportunities provided by working more effectively together.
4. Participants will complete a work-based project, which will be formally assessed. Participants receiving a pass mark will achieve the endorsed award.
5. The programme will be delivered through 5 2-day modules, with a follow up day for networking, coaching and feedback.
6. Where possible the modules will be delivered within businesses allowing the participants to visit other businesses within the sector, gaining further appreciation and understanding of the diversity of the sector.
