The British Conifer Group (BCG)

The BCG, currently chaired by Roger Ward of Golden Grove Nursery, is made up of nurseries growing conifers and supplying the UK market.

The group is run through a committee made up of seven members.  The main purpose of the BCG is to promote the benefits of conifers to the public against the backdrop of negative publicity and fashion trends.

The focus of BCG is the National Conifer Week campaign.

National Conifer Week
This event has now run for six years during October each year and has become an established part of the retail promotional calendar. This years National Conifer Week will run 29th September - 7th October 2012.


Pruning and Trimming of Conifers DVD/Video
The BCG has produced a DVD and video film, featuring David Domoney and Adrian Bloom. The film shows how conifers can be maintained, by simple trimming, and contained within any garden size. The DVD version is available to be purchased from alison.smith@the-hta.org.uk.

The website can be viewed at http://www.conifers.org.uk/. The site contains information on conifers for the public and promotes the various initiatives.

R&D
The BCG is represented on the HDC Hardy Nursery Stock Panel and ensures important research areas are communicated.  R&D issues are routinely discussed at BCG Committee meetings and communicated directly to members

Membership
